It’s Friday night of the first full week of Lent….about 8 of 40 days done.
This is what happened…
His cousin, John, baptized him in the waters…
The beautiful sky opened up, a dove descended, and Jesus heard…
Matthew 3:17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
Then Jesus went into the desert for 40 days to face temptation from the enemy.
I am absolutely convinced that we cannot go into the desert and defeat the enemy of our souls unless we first hear, know, and accept that we are beloved by God.
You may disagree…yet I persist in believing that God is well pleased with us to begin with. It is only when we doubt that God is well pleased that we become displeasing.
Back in 2015 I was beginning to believe that I was well loved and I was full of joy and abundant love. I believed in infinite love. I believed in love that was stronger than scarcity and jealousy and envy and strife. I could taste the sweetness of love.
And then the desert and temptations hit. (vague intentionally to honor others…but also because we all have our mountaintop to desert stories and this isn’t so much about MY story as it is about THE story.)
I fell darker and darker and grew more isolated and angry and jealous and full of strife. This Tuesday I gave Satan the hand.
Be gone Satan! In the good name of Jesus, be gone!
I told my friend tonight, I’m starting to find myself again.
We are made in the image of God. We are beautiful and made for goodness and beloved. It is the lie of the snake that tells us we should be ashamed. But we believe we should be ashamed so we try to cover our nakedness with fig leaves. The more we cover, the more our beauty is hidden. But God sees through the cover up. ooooohhhh yessss….God see through the cover up. Stop hiding.
